Strike Back: A Bold Display Font for Business Branding

A Fresh Look for Our Bakery Packaging

We were in the middle of redesigning our bakery packaging and needed a font that could capture the warmth and energy of our brand. After trying a few standard options, we landed on Strike Back—a brushed display font that brought the perfect mix of personality and professionalism. It wasn’t just about looking good; it was about creating a visual identity that customers could instantly recognize and trust.

Strike Back has a dynamic, hand-brushed texture that feels both modern and approachable. Its slightly uneven strokes and organic flow make it feel human and authentic—ideal for small businesses that want to stand out without looking overly flashy. The font is a display typeface, which means it shines brightest in short bursts: headlines, logos, packaging titles, and social media graphics. It’s not meant for long paragraphs, but that’s exactly what makes it so effective for attention-grabbing design elements.

From Labels to Logos: Real-World Branding Uses

We used Strike Back across multiple touchpoints. First, on our product labels for seasonal cookie boxes. The font gave the packaging a premium, handcrafted feel that matched the quality of our baked goods. Then, in our logo redesign—Strike Back’s bold character made our bakery name pop on signage and social media banners. We even used it on thank-you cards and Instagram stories to maintain visual consistency across all customer interactions.

One of the biggest advantages of Strike Back is how it elevates simple designs. On a candle label, it gave a minimalist design a touch of flair. On a café menu, it made the daily specials stand out without overwhelming the layout. Because it’s PUA encoded, we could easily access alternate characters and swashes, which allowed us to customize the look without needing advanced design software.

Why Typography Matters for Small Businesses

Typography is more than just choosing a pretty font. It plays a crucial role in how customers perceive your brand. A well-chosen typeface like Strike Back can communicate professionalism, warmth, and reliability—especially when used consistently across branding materials.

For small businesses, consistency is key. Whether you’re printing a business card or designing a digital ad, using the same visual language helps build trust and familiarity with your audience.

Pairing Strike Back for Balanced Design

Because Strike Back is such a strong, decorative font, it works best when paired with simpler typefaces. We paired it with a clean sans serif for body text, which created a nice contrast and kept the overall design from feeling cluttered. For more elegant applications—like a boutique clothing tag—we used a soft serif font alongside Strike Back for the product name.

Here are a few pairing ideas to try:

  1. Modern Minimal: Pair with a geometric sans serif like Montserrat or Lato for clean, contemporary branding.
  2. Classic Elegance: Combine with a timeless serif font like Playfair Display for luxury packaging or wedding-related designs.
  3. Handwritten Charm: Use with a script or handwritten font for a warm, personal touch—perfect for greeting cards or artisanal product labels.

These pairings help balance the boldness of Strike Back while letting it shine as the visual centerpiece of your design.

Practical Tips for Using Strike Back

While Strike Back is incredibly versatile, there are a few practical considerations to keep in mind when using it for real-world business applications:

We found that using Strike Back at a slightly larger size helped maintain its impact and readability, especially on printed materials like stickers and packaging. For digital use, we adjusted the spacing and contrast to ensure it looked sharp on both desktop and mobile displays.
